Less rushing. Less juggling. More time to actually enjoy family life.
For many Canadian families, the hardest part of raising children isn’t one big thing. It’s the hundred little things that somehow need to happen every single day.
Getting everyone out the door in the morning. School drop-offs. Pick-ups. Laundry. Snacks. Activities. Dinner. Tidying up. And somewhere in between, parents are supposed to work, run a household—and occasionally have a life.
If you’re already looking ahead and thinking of making a change to childcare for 2027, hiring an Au Pair in Canada may be one of the most practical decisions you make for your family.
An Extra Pair of Hands Can Change the Whole Day
An Au Pair isn’t simply another childcare option. For the right family, having an Au Pair can change the rhythm of family life.
Because an Au Pair lives with your family, childcare can be structured around the times when you actually need help. Depending on your family’s needs and agreed working hours, that might include helping children get ready in the morning, school drop-offs and pick-ups, preparing simple meals for the children, helping with children’s laundry and light child-related housekeeping, or keeping the kids busy while you finish your workday.
And sometimes that is exactly what a busy family needs. How would that sound?
Why Hire an Au Pair in Canada in 2027?
One of the biggest benefits of Au Pair childcare in Canada is flexibility.
Traditional daycare and after-school programs can work wonderfully for some families. But they don’t always fit families with multiple children, changing work schedules, long commutes or several different activities happening every week.
An Au Pair can provide childcare within your own home while becoming familiar with your children’s routines, personalities and schedules.
For families with two or three children in particular, having someone already at home can make everyday logistics considerably easier.
Many Au Pairs have a driving license so no frantic drive across town because daycare closes at 5:30.
It might eliminate negotiating over who leaves work early for school pick-up 🙂
No packing three children into the car for an errand one child needs to attend.
Just more help where you need it most—at home.
Au Pair vs. Nanny in Canada: What’s the Difference?
Families researching Au Pair vs. nanny costs in Canada often assume the two options are essentially the same.
They aren’t.
Professional nannies may have extensive childcare experience and typically command higher hourly wages. An Au Pair is generally a younger person who comes to Canada for a cultural and work experience and lives with the host family.
Au Pairs still need to be legally employed. In Canada, they must have valid authorization to work, be paid at least the applicable provincial minimum wage, and be employed in accordance with provincial employment standards.
Many international Au Pairs come to Canada through the International Experience Canada (IEC) Working Holiday program, which can provide eligible young people with an open work permit.
It’s About More Than Childcare
There is another reason many families love the Au Pair experience: cultural exchange.
Your children may learn words in another language, hear stories about another country, discover new foods and develop a relationship with someone they may remember long after the placement ends.
An Au Pair might come from Germany, France, Austria, Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands or another participating country and bring a little piece of their home into yours.
For children, the world suddenly becomes a little bigger without leaving the house.
The Real Luxury in 2027? Time.
Families sometimes think of household help as a luxury.
But perhaps the real luxury is something much simpler.
Having time to sit down for dinner instead of rushing through it.
Having someone available for school pick-up when your meeting runs late.
Being able to spend twenty minutes with one child without simultaneously trying to make dinner and supervise another.
Having a Saturday morning when the laundry isn’t staring at you accusingly from across the room.
An Au Pair can’t make family life completely calm.
But having another Adult in the home and hiring the right Au Pair can make it more manageable.
Planning to Hire an Au Pair for 2027?
Finding the right Au Pair isn’t simply about finding someone who wants to come to Canada.
Families should consider childcare experience, personality, expectations, driving ability if required, work authorization and—most importantly—whether the Au Pair and family are genuinely compatible.
Starting your search early also gives you more time to interview candidates and find someone whose experience and personality suit your household.
